A Look at Hearing Aid Technologies and Designs

Recent advances in modern hearing aid technology has made it possible for Allison Audiology & Hearing Aid Center, P.C. to provide customized hearing correction for any type of hearing loss. The latest devices no longer depend on heavy hearing aid batteries or vacuum tubes, but integrate microchips, computerization, and digitized sound to enhance hearing quality. Some varieties are even rechargeable! Since there are a wide range of hearing aid options to choose from, our hearing specialist is happy to sit down with you and find the perfect solution for your needs. Our hearing devices will allow you to experience a marked improvement in your daily activities by enhancing your comfort level and giving you the most for your investment. Some of the features of today’s hearing aids include:

  • Digital technology – Digital hearing aids create a seamless experience for wearers by combining improved filters and circuits with programmable processors to automatically amplify sounds, reduce background noise, and enhance sound quality. Digital technology can also be paired with your smartphone, allowing you to stream music and telephone calls directly to your hearing aids. Other advanced features include directional microphones, Bluetooth compatibility, data logging, and feedback management, making digital hearing aids much more effective at providing clear sound quality in noisy environments.
  • Versatile, compact designs – Hearing aid designs have undergone tremendous changes over the years, becoming more compact and comfortable with each new model. From invisible hearing aids that provide extended wear options to traditional behind-the-ear varieties with discreet hearing aid batteries, you are sure to find a hearing solution to fit your specific requirements.

Hearing Aid Styles

When it comes to selecting a hearing aid style, you should always take into account the degree of your hearing loss, power and option requirements, manual dexterity abilities, and cosmetic preferences. During your initial consultation with Allison Audiology & Hearing Aid Center, P.C., our audiologists will help you explore all of the different options and provide a custom fitting experience to ensure maximum comfort. Once you have chosen your hearing aid, our team will help you adjust it and teach you how to clean and care for the device. If your hearing aids ever need repairs or adjustments, you can count on our hearing healthcare professionals to keep them in perfect working order for years to come.

Take a look at the styles below to learn more about the benefits of each design.

Invisible in the Canal (IIC)

Invisible in the canal hearing aid device in houston

This micro device is the latest in custom hearing aid styles, fitting so deeply into the ear canal that it is almost completely hidden from view.

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

Behind the ear

The traditional BTE is the most flexible hearing aid available. The hearing aid itself is worn behind the ear, conducting sound into a custom ear mold that rests inside the outer ear. Although this is the largest type of hearing aid, it is also the most powerful, the easiest to adjust, and is capable of addressing almost all types of hearing loss.

In-the-ear (ITE)

In the ear hearing aid in houston

This type of hearing aid fits snugly inside the bowl-shaped area of the outer ear. Primarily used to correct mild to severe hearing loss, ITE hearing aids are more visible than IIC devices. However, they are generally easier to insert and adjust and have a longer battery life.

Receiver In Canal (RIC)

RIC hearing device for patients in houston

RIC hearing aids feature a discreet design that leaves the ear canal more open, which makes it perfect for those with mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss. This new, smaller type of BTE hearing device fits snugly behind the ear and includes a narrow tube that is inserted into the ear canal, which removes occlusion and provides clearer sound quality.

Extended Wear

lyric invisible hearing device for extended wear in houston

As the first invisible hearing aids approved for extended wear, Lyric hearing devices are placed deep in the ear canal, which completely hides them from view. They can be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 2-3 months at a time and do not require maintenance or battery charges.
